A. Michael Nalu, Partner

Michael has been handling civil litigation matters since 1999 after graduating from Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  From 1999-2005, Michael was an associate handling civil litigation defense at Higgs, Fletcher & Mack, one of the oldest and most well respected law firms in San Diego.  From 2005-2007, Michael handled plaintiff’s business litigation at a boutique civil litigation firm.  In January 2007, Michael partnered with Robert Hocker, a friend and mentor, which resulted in the establishment of Hocker & Nalu.

The following are a representative sample of recent results:

Property owner sued by general contractor:  Michael represented the owners of a home against a general contractor who sued them for non-payment.  The owners counter-sued and, prior to trial, settled for payment to Michael’s clients of a confidential sum.

Terminated for being pregnant:  Michael represented an employee who was terminated within 24 hours of notifying her employer that she was pregnant.  After a demand for arbitration was filed the case settled for a confidential sum.

Employee Owed Commissions:  Michael represented an employee who was owed more than six months of earned commissions.  Prior to filing suit, Michael settled the litigation for payment of all wages, penalties, costs and attorney fees incurred.

Breach of Contract for Sale of Residence:  Michael represented the daughter and son-in-law in a contract dispute against their father for the sale of a percentage ownership in residential property.  The lawsuit settled on the day of trial after opening statements resulting in Michael’s clients receiving the entire residential property for substantially below market value.

Business Partnership Dispute:  Michael defended a 50% owner of a business being sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars for alleged misappropriation and embezzlement of partnership assets.  The case settled on the eve of trial for a confidential sum.

Wrongful Termination:  Michael represented an employee of a large non-profit organization in San Diego.  After sending a letter to the non-profit identifying their numerous factual errors which they used to justify termination, Michael’s client was given his job back with payment of all back wages.

Other notable accomplishments:

Three-time NCAA All-American in water polo at UCSD.
Member of Temple Law School moot court team.
Wapner-Newman award recipient for achievement in advanced trial advocacy.

When not in the office, Michael spends his time with his two sons and wife, Kristin.
